Elizabeth Blackwell’s Curious Herbal was first issued in weekly parts from 1737 to 1739 and contained around 500 engraved images of medicinal plants. Born in Aberdeen Elizabeth illustrated, engraved and hand-coloured this book to raise funds to have her husband released from a debtor’s prison. She was
the first British woman to produce a Herbal used by physicians for medical reference and the first woman to engrave, as well as draw plants.
It is digitally printed onto 100% quality half Panama cotton fabric producing a stunning and hard wearing tea towel.
